"THE MEKONS ARE THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY BAND IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK 'N' ROLL." Lester Bangs

// Facebook Event //

More than any band that came out of late-'70s England, the Mekons with an ever-shifting lineup produced some of the best rock & roll on the planet, be it driving rock-noise, cool synth-driven pop, guitar rave-ups, or postmodern country & western. Originated in the punk era and yet rebelled against punk rock itself, their first single, "Never Been in a Riot" ruthlessly targeted the anthem "White Riot" by the Clash. A favourite band of the late English DJ John Peel and American rock writers Greil Marcus, Robert Christgau, and Lester Bangs who declared that "The Mekons are the most revolutionary band in the history of rock 'n' roll." They cross the boundaries of punk to country, reggae, and electronics, resembling a fictional mix of the Clash, David Byrne and Hank Williams. They come to Prague to launch their 26th album Ancient & Modern, released this September.
