SISTER INDIA
In
past 15 years, DJ Ritu became the most prolific force to emerge from
the Asian Underground phenomenon. Her radio programmes are broadcasted
in London, Istanbul and Berlin, she has written the bhangra chapter
for the Rough Guide to World Music and put together highly valuable
compilations of Indian music. With her stage projects, she performs
both in clubs and at festivals. Sister India, driven by DJ Ritu's turntable
soundtrack, features high profile artists with wide and varied music
backgrounds: from Faithless and The Dhol Foundation, to Ryuichi
Sakamoto, Massive Attack and the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra. Sister India's
team of vocalists, musicians and dancers create a highly charged, dynamic
interaction between live and sampled music - an event to set the cold
night on fire.
DJ Ritu named her band after Peggy Payne's best-selling novel. "For
anyone who has harboured a secret desire to go to India and be transformed,
Sister India takes you on this journey without ever leaving home," writes
a reviewer. DJ Ritu does the same to you with Indian music.
