BANTU & AFROBEAT ACADEMY

This year's hot discovery, fusing up-to-date Afro hip-hop with Fela Kuti's vintage afrobeat. Adé Bantu performed with UB40, Schäl Sick Brass Band and his own Brothers Keepers. His last album "Fuji Satisfaction" features Fela Kuti's original guitar player Kologbo Oghene and the new star of Nigeria's fuji music Adewale Ayuba. The result is stunningly original combination of raw African funk and reggae, delicately seasoned for the European dancefloor. The album is already a hit in the European World Music charts, and Bantu became the last minute addition to this year's PopKomm Music fair in Berlin.

For many, the best known Nigerian musician is the rebel and afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, but African connoisseurs recognize much larger variety of styles. Most of them evolved as fusion of local trance rhythms and European instruments. King Suny Adé took juju music to the world audiences 30 years ago - while the rootsier fuji became leading style in Nigeria in the 1980's.
Fuji is a synthesis of all that is blending on the African continent today: Arabesque Islamic singing playfully competing with Western guitar and organ sounds over heavy polyrhythmic Yoruba drumming.
Born to a German mother and a Nigerian father in England, Adé Bantu relocated to Cologne, Germany in recent years. Adé was almost 16 years old when his father was murdered by armed robbers. He speaks of the therapeutic importance of music, "food for the soul." Brothers Keepers, the all-star ensemble masterminded by Adé Bantu, combines artistic versatility with a clear political statement. And they took it right into the mainstream, to the very top of the German charts. His last album, highly successful Fuji Satisfaction, features the Fuji music master Adewale Ayuba and Fela Kuti's original guitar player Kologbo Oghene.
Together they push the Fuji trend even further and create a whole new blend of styles: Fuji vibes, Afrobeat, Ragga flows and Pidgin Raps.
With music from Fuji Satisfaction and Afrobeat Academy Bantu performed for the ferocious crowds all over Europe on a tour which also includes a date in Prague.
