DISCOVERING THE WORLD WITH RESPECT FESTIVAL
For past eight years, Respect Festival was bringing the best of African,
Asian, Caribbean, Gypsy and other cultures to Prague. Being the first event
of it's kind in this country, Respect introduced a variety of styles: Balkan
brass bands (Boban Marković, Kočani Orkestar), British-Asian bhangra (Alaap,
Sister India), Caribbean root bands (Skatalites, Joaquin Diaz) and world-fusion
DJs (Future World Funk). This year's programme rediscovers rock, reggae
and dancefloor via Africa, with the Blind Couple of Mali, Amadou & Mariam,
the likembé-garage Congolese band Konono No. 1, the Afropop godfather Bonga
from Angola, and many others.
