| VERA BÍLÁ and KALE Vera Bílá, the central figure in the Czech Romany band Kale, comes from a musical family, and has been singing for as long as she can remember. Her nickname "Kal'i" (Romany for "black") was later given to her backup band (Kale, or "The Blacks"). Vera Bílá and Kale are well on their way to becoming a valuable export article of the Czech music scene. During the past three years they have won great acclaim throughout the world, appearing at a number of exclusive festivals such as the prestigious Les Printemps de Bourges in France, which they opened together with the celebrated Cape Verde singer Cesaria Evora. |
