| KAYO MIKAMI & Torifune Butoh-Sha In recent years, the dancer Kayo Mikami has made successful appearances at festivals all over the world – for instance in Nancy and Avignon (France), San Francisco (the World Dance Congress, the Permi-Fringe Festival of Independent Theater), and so on. Kayo Mikami is a master of butoh dancing, which she also teaches. She gives workshops regularly, and not always just in the places where she performs (e.g. CORD – the Conference for Dance and Culture in Canada). Besides this, she has published a pioneering book on the technique of butoh dancing, based on her studies with the founding father of this style, Tatsumi Hijikata, and is also the editor of Japanese Dance Congress Magazine, which is dedicated to this tradition. |
