Ustad Jaffar Hussain Randhawa, Pakistan’s oldest and most prominent clarinetist. He is one of a handful of musicians in all of South Asia who continue the now rare tradition of performing Hindustani classical music on the clarinet, a Western instrument unrelated to the local tradition. His trio excels in masterful renditions of classical forms such as raag, thumri and kafi. The Prague concert, a stop on their way to the prestigious Le Guess Who? festival, will be their first performance in Europe and is sure to be as much of an experience as Ustad Noor Bakhsh’s Prague concerts. Jaffar Hussain Randhawa will be accompanied by Riaz Ahmed on tabla and Muneer Hussain on harmonium.
