TOOT – Phil Minton + Thomas Lehn + Axel Dörner – Farewell Tour

UK, Germany | OM

The final tour of the legendary group TOOT, bringing together leading figures of European improvised music

Phil Minton is a master improviser who has been active on the contemporary music scene since the 1960s and has worked across nearly the entire spectrum of the global musical avant-garde. He focuses primarily on voice and wind instruments. His unique vocal abilities are extraordinary — through his voice he can embody countless identities, not necessarily human ones, interpreting natural sounds and inanimate objects in his own distinctive way. His vocal acrobatics surpass those of indigenous shamans and beatboxers alike. His performances can best be described as fantastic sonic theatre. Even at the age of eighty-five, he has retained his wild anarchic approach to music and has not compromised any of his fiercely independent attitudes — quite the opposite. He last performed at Punctum in 2025 with the duo Metal Breath (with Carl Ludwig Hübsch).

Thomas Lehn comes from Germany and works in improvised and contemporary music. His instrument is the EMS Synthi A analog synthesizer, which he uses to create a wide range of electronic textures in real time. He has collaborated with musicians such as Keith Rowe, John Butcher, Phil Durrant, Radu Malfatti, Gerry Hemingway, Andy Moor, and many others. He is a member of the electronic orchestra M.I.M.E.O. and the free improvisation group Konk Pack together with Roger Turner and Tim Hodgkinson.

Axel Dörner (trumpet, slide trumpet) is one of the leading contemporary trumpet players. He has been active on the experimental scene for many years and has collaborated with numerous important figures, including Alexander von Schlippenbach, Paul Lovens, Phil Minton, and others. Czech audiences could see him last year alongside Otomo Yoshihide, Martin Brandlmayr, and Sachiko M (Rachot 2024, Punctum), and this year as part of the Monk’s Casino project (Akropolis, HAMU).
