New album Trébuchet

New album Trébuchet

Led by saxophonist and MacArthur prize winner Ken Vandermark, it is his primary compositional outlet and includes three of the most exciting and significant musicians working in contemporary music: Christof Kurzmann (laptop/electronics), Jasper Stadhouders(electric bass), and Tim Daisy (drums).

This revolutionary and groove-based ensemble has repeatedly amazed audiences in Europe and North America wherever and whenever they perform- whether at festivals, in jazz venues, or rock clubs.  2017 promises to be a landmark year in the group’s career.  MADE TO BREAK will release its third album for Trost, Trébuchet, in the autumn.  The material on this record is their furthest reaching and most bold sonic endeavor yet.  Opening with the hard hitting rhythms of “Hydroplane” and moving through the experimental territory of “Slipping Words Against Silence,” it takes the listener on a journey that cannot be anticipated and which fulfills the promise of the future of improvised music.  During November the band will tour extensively in Europe and will record new music for their next album.
Vandermark’s full-bodied playing and Christof Kurzmann’s soupy electronic loops invigorated a seemingly inexhaustible pile of monster funk riffs that sounded reminiscent of Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi-era ensemble, unwaveringly propelled by the dynamic rhythm section of Jasper Stadhouders and Tim Daisy.
