Alec Kopyt -
accordion, vocals Gherman Popov - guitar, flute, mouth harp, vocals, electronics |
The Ukraine born Alec Kopyt is a mesmerizing singer, resembling husky bluesmen from deep South. In the 60's he could be John Mayall or Joe Cocker - but in this century he has a rare chance to stick to his own roots. While his ancestors made living as Jewish butchers in the port of Odessa, Alec choose to live in Amsterdam. He remembers well the unpolished songs from streets, markets and waterfront bars. "Before Stalin, Odessa was the New Orleans of Black Sea. For more than two hundred years, it was free port inhabited by Greeks, Armenians, Jews, Turks, Gypsies, gangsters and pickpockets." Kopyt performs with his compatriot Gherman Popov, one of the most demanded players in Netherlands.
