Respect 2003
As in previous years, Respect Festival offers a tantalizing variety of both
traditional and modern styles. For the very first time, the Czech audiences
will be exposed to Gnawa ritual music from Morocco, both in traditional form
(Gnawa Halwa) and electro-fusion (Gnawa Impulse). De Amsterdam Klezmer Band
and Poza from Ukraine give their updated and highly entertaining view of klezmer
styles. Mahala Rai Banda, all stars city/village band will take you on a magical
mystery tour through Romanian gypsy music. Asian Underground is represented
by bhangra innovators Achanak from Birmingham. The ultimate top of the bill
are the Skatalites, godfathers of ska, reggae and everything Jamaican. The
Skatalites started in the 60's and now belong to the same class as their Caribbean
neighbours Buena Vista.
